Strip oak flooring is used in the majority of our installations for its sheer beauty and lower costs.  We use domestic red and white oak species.  We purchase direct from the manufacturer, and in most cases by the truck load, allowing us to pass along these great savings to the consumer.  We also have high quality standards, and inspect every delivery.

Strip flooring material is 3/4" thick, and 2 1/4" in width.  The edges are tongued and grooved, allowing for a tight  fit. The material is also secured to the subfloor by blind nailing.

The appearance of the wood is determined by how it is "graded." All grades are equally strong and serviceable, yet afford the consumer different looks. Oak has four basic grades.

  • "Clear" has the best appearance for its uniform color.   Clear is free of defects though it may have minor imperfections.
  • "Select" is almost clear, but contains more natural characteristics such as knots and color variations.
  • "Common" grades (No. 1 and No. 2) have more markings than either clear or select and are often chosen because of these natural features and the character they bring to a room. No. 1 Common has a variegated appearance, light and dark colors, knots, flags and worm holes. No 2 Common is rustic in appearance and allow all wood characteristics of the species.
